Bible Sparks: Matthew 5:37

One of my favorite Bible verses is this one, from the 5th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew:

But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

Matthew 5:37

New King James Version

In the Authorized King James Version, which is my current Bible, it reads:

But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

  1. Isn’t it interesting how different people find different verses and often the same verses of the Bible to be saying entirely different things?
    Why is that true?

    1. I’m thinking it just depends where we are in our relationship with Jesus…makes sense to me.
Someone who is new may interpret something very differently than someone who has been a believer for several years who sees differently than someone who may be a scholar.
